Lot 116:
October 5, 1778 Virginia One Dollar Virginia trampling Tyranny vignette with Motto “SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS”

October 5, 1778 Treasury of Virginia Colonial Currency, One Dollar, with Virginia trampling Tyranny vignette and Motto “SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS”, Choice Very Fine.
Fr. VA-156. This Revolutionary War series of notes is printed on thin laid paper using the Virginia trampling Tyranny vignette and motto SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS. This one dollar note is Uniface with a few contemporary notations on the blank reverse. The face is well centered and has a clear “L. Wood” signature. The Friedberg reference rates this note “Very Rare” and the 2008 5th edition of Newman provides all “dashes” due to the rarity of this issue, which were redeemable into the Treasury by December 1st, 1785. An underrated note in this higher grade which is certainly lacking in most all specialized Virginia Colonial Currency collections.
