Lot 117:
October 5, 1778 Virginia $100 Highest Denomination Note
October 5, 1778, Treasury of Virginia Colonial Currency, $100 Highest Denomination Note, Large Format, Very Fine. Fr. VA-163. This 1778 Revolutionary War $100 Spanish Milled Dollars Uniface note was the highest denomination issued on this emission. This note is evenly circulated having some strips or archival reinforcement over small internal splits on its blank reverse side. All of the design details are quite clear and the signatures of Bolling Stark and Edward Archer are well written. The current Friedberg reference shows a value of $1,000 in VF and the 2008 5th edition of Newman was aggressive being double that amount with a value of $2,000 in Fine. An attractive well printed face shows well for display. |
