c. 1775 Revolutionary War Period, American Continental Army “USA” Design, South Carolina Enlisted Soldier’s Cast Pewter Button, 17mm, Unique Pattern with a slightly domed face, no border and thin lettering, Original Full Shank Intact, Troiani AUSA.j, Very Fine.
Troiani AUSA.j. 17 mm. This uniquely designed, locally cast manufactured in South Carolina, American Revolutionary War Continental Army Soldiers’ Pewter Button has the historic “USA” design fully clear and sharp on its face. An exceptional fully straight completely original upright shank is solidly attached on the plain back. The surfaces show a uniform proper natural light pewter-gray patina. Overall, this is a very pleasing, remarkable superior quality example of this incredibly rare elusive South Carolina made variant of the “USA” Continental Army Soldier button type. Outstanding for specialists, the first we have encountered and offered in 50 years.
