Lot 132:
Choice 18th Century French Style Flintlock Officer's Fusil

c. 1780 Revolutionry War Era, this choice .708" caliber single shot French made smoothbore flintlock musket features a masterfully finished hardwood stock and multiple engraved metal adornments around the triggerguard, stock, breech and barrel, Choice Very Fine.
The overall length is 51.5” with the barrel measuring 36”. Some slight rusting is present around the firing pan, but otherwise the condition is excellent. The slightly curved flat faceted lock plate measures 5.75" and sports a pronounced teat at the rear with a detachable bridled, faceted and fenced iron pan and a reinforced cock. The lock plate is engraved with the words “Dupont Paris” while the flat faceted two-screw side plate is fashioned to resemble a furl of grass and flowers. The lock lacks a flint. The ornate trigger guard plate is 10.75" in overall length with a 2.75" extension forward of the guard bow and a 5.5" extension to the rear. The trigger guard is engraved with a shield alongside a Grecian helm, an olive branch, an spear, two axes and a fasces. A lug for a socket bayonet is located under the barrel 1" from the muzzle. Screw-retained sling swivels are present below the buttstock and ramrod rings. The breech is embossed with a capital letter “D”, possibly for Dupont.
