American politician, pastor, educator, diplomat, and orator, U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, 15th Governor of Massachusetts, Minister to Great Britain, United States Secretary of State, and Harvard University President. Great American Orator best remembered for his dedication at the Gettysburg National Cemetery in 1863, where he spoke for over two hours before President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous two-minute Gettysburg Address.

An exceptional and historically significant 1860 Fourth of July oration booklet, titled “Oration Delivered Before the City Authorities of Boston: On the Fourth of July, 1860.” This important Civil War-era publication is boldly signed by Edward Everett and warmly inscribed to the “Hon. Nathan Appleton,” a distinguished Massachusetts statesman. This booklet retains a solid binding and original covers. The boards show light spotting and slight, even toning consistent with their age. Of special note, a carte de viste of Edward Everett is found within the booklet and is also signed by him. Edward Everett was one of the great American orators of the antebellum and Civil War periods.
