c. 1865 Civil War Era, Identified State of West Virginia Honorable Discharge Hanger Medal Struck in Bronze, to “JAS D CREMENS CO. D 1ST REG VET VOLS.”, Cremen’s unit saw action at Cedar Mountain, Bull Run, and Cedar Creek, Choice Mint. 37 mm. This scarce historic Medal is attached to a Bronze hanger stating “Honorably Discharged” and Patriotic Red, White & Blue Silk Ribbon, the medal attached below meant to be worn for ceremonial commemorative purposes. These medals were presented by the State of West Virginia to those soldiers who were honorably discharged from service during the Civil War. This medal is in mint condition having lovely smooth surfaces and comes with its apparent original white cardboard box with the recipient’s name written in pencil. The edges of these were Letter-punched with the name of the recipient. We have seen other similar identified medals priced in excess of $1,000 to over $1,200 online in lesser quality. In this case the soldier is named and identified on the rim as: “JAS D CREMENS CO. D 1ST REG VET VOLS.” his unit saw action at Cedar Mountain, Bull Run, and Cedar Creek. A handsome attractive Mint State historic medal that is excellent for display. The 1st West Virginia Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the last year of the American Civil War. It consisted primarily of veterans of older regiments, whose terms of enlistment had expired. Attached to a bronze hanger and ribbon arrangement and meant to be worn for ceremonial purposes. These medals were presented by the State of West Virginia to those soldiers who were honorably discharged from service during the Civil War. The quality of this piece is outstanding and the colors of the ribbon are bright and bold. Accompanied by the well-worn, original box, with the recipient’s name written in ink on one side and in pencil elsewhere. This is a museum-quality piece for the advanced collector of Union Civil War memorabilia. |
