Lot 179:
Five Cents BROWN’S BRONCHIAL TROCHES for Coughs & Colds Civil War Emergency Currency of 1862
1862 Civil War Era Encased Postage Stamp, EP-67, HB-64, S-33, Reed-BT05, Five Cents, BROWN’S BRONCHIAL TROCHES, Plain Frame, Extremely Fine. Rated as Rarity-4 (31 to 40 known) according to Fred Reed. A pleasing example with nice eye appeal. The 1861 US Postage issue 5¢ Thomas Jefferson stamp is a bright bold deep brown and centered towards the upper right. Its mica is clear and unbroken with some natural wispy mineral laminations along the center. The case is a naturally toned medium chestnut in color with excellent sharp definition to its reverse legends, while the obverse left side moon and upper rim has some reddish coloration and a spot of deeper tone. An elusive denomination that is difficult to locate any finer. Provenance ex: EAHA Auction of December 12, 1998 Lot 396, where it sold for $833.75 over two decades ago. (VF Scott Cat. $900) |
