Lot 198:
Ribbed Frame 10¢ HUNT & NASH "Irving House" Rarity-5
1862 Civil War Era Encased Postage Stamp, EP-119, HB-154, S-109a,10¢, HUNT & NASH, "Irving House," New York, Ribbed Frame Type, Lightly Silvered, Choice About Uncirculated. Rated as Rarity-5 (21 to 30 Known) according to Fred Reed. The deep green 1861 Civil War George Washington US Postage Stamp is very well centered, viewed under clear unbroken mica with a touch of natural surface lamination and faint signs of circulation. The fine lines of the “Ribbing” on the face side of the case are very clear. The case has retained a light coating of its original Silvering over the golden-brassy color with only one tiny tone spot on the rim edge on the reverse side with the legends sharp in detail and somewhat flashy. This popular Ribbed Frame variety and major Merchant type are always in demand and rarely located this nice especially with any Silvering. (VF Scott Cat. $1,400) |
