Texas Slave Bill of Sale of "Negro Woman Named Emeline"

April 26, 1858-Dated Pre Civil War, Washington County, Texas, Manuscript Bill of Sale of a 40 year old Slave named Emeline Warranted to be a "Slave For Life", Very Fine.
A scarce Texas Bill of Sale of a Slave, 1 page, measuring 8” x 9.75”, well written on clean light blue lined wove period paper in rich brown ink with a small ink stain at the top outer edge and a minor short fold split at top right. This being an 1859 official copy of the 1858 document as an official duplicate, headed "State of Texas, County of Washington." It documents that Mary Jones sold "a negro woman named Emeline, about forty years of age" to James McMiller for $800. Mary Jones further warrants that the Slave was "sound, sensible and a Slave for life". This document was witnessed by Jacob B. Slack and J. A. Moore. A notation at the bottom reads: "The original sent to R. & D. G. Mills, 21st Feb. 1859". Docketing on the reverse side reads, in full: "Bill of Sale for Negro Emeline".
