1943-Dated World War II Period, Inscribed Large Ornate 925 Sterling Silver Commemorative Vase Presented by Oscar R. Benavides the former President of Peru from 1933-1939, to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Choice Very Fine.
This elegant fully blue toned Sterling Silver Vase measures about 8.25 inches tall and 9.5 inches wide, weighing 1.58 pounds or about 21.384 Troy Ounces of Pure Silver, (which at $90 per troy ounce, has a Melt Value of about $1,924). This Vase bears the formal Engraved Inscription on one side reading:

“To President Franklin D. Roosevelt / Merry Christmas / From / President Oscar R. Benevides / 1943”

This Vase displays a full beautiful natural patina of overall attractive bluing, suggesting that is has never been polished or cleaned. The base carries the manufacturing mark, “Sterling 925. Camusso. Made in Peru.” therefore confirming its quality, origin and authenticity. There are decorative floral accents which adorn the base, adding refinement to the understated design. This vase is a distinguished historic diplomatic gift, presented at Christmas in 1943 during the terrible World War situation, combining historical significance with exquisite Peruvian silversmith craftsmanship that has lovely eye appeal and history with the beloved United States President, Franklin D. OSCAR R. BENEVIDES was the former President of Peru from 1933-1939. He led an authoritarian government following a military coup in 1932. He served as President of Peru until 1939 in which he became the United States Ambassador of Spain in 1940 and the Ambassador of Argentina in 1942.
