Lot 239:
Commemorative Benjamin Franklin Portrait Drawer Pull

c. 1762 (c. 1930) Bust of Benjamin Franklin Portrait Drawer Pull by Israel Sack, New York, Brass door pull mounted on brass screw with square nut, the Pull measures 39mm diameter, with its extention hardware 67mm long, Choice Extremely Fine.
Scarce Bust of Franklin facing left with, “BENn FRANKLIN. L.L.D.” around, copying the original Betts-545 of c. 1762. While some original versions of this drawer pull exist, they are extremely rare; the majority around for collectors are of this 1930 Commemorative version by Israel Sack. This example shows excellent golden-bronze color with subdued glossy fields and currently these are already quite scarce. Sack offered these in the July 1930 issue of Antiques Magazine nearly a century ago.

Provenance: From the Richard Margolis Collection. Earlier from George LaBarre at the 1976 ANA, New York City, August 1976.
