A lovely sharply struck example having light medium-brown surfaces, the overall color is suggestive of a very light cleaning long ago as mentioned on its holder, having naturally retoned. 27.4 mm. 141.9 grains. *Note: a fine staple scratch is located on the outer plastic holder which is not on the coin. The detail is sharp having been a little handled, likely having been placed in a collection early on after issue. Struck on a typical copper flan that was a bit too small, as usually seen for this issue. An attractive coin as date is full and no letters are struck less than 50% present. Traces of soft original luster remain, and the diagnostic small patch from die rust is clearly evident in the left obverse field, as made attesting to its authenticity. When the Benjamin Haines collection was sold in 1863, the Liverpool Halfpenny was then called "extremely rare" with the note that “Only One Other” was known to him. That coin sold to Colin Lightbody for $25, being the same amount a rare original C.C. Wright “Signing of the Declaration” medal would bring just two months later.
