JOHN CHESTER (1749-1809). Revolutionary War Patriot, Hero at the Battle of Bunker Hill depicted in Gilbert Stuart’s historic painting “The Death of General Warren” shown holding the dying General Joseph Warren while trying to protect him from the advancing British, Chester Crossed the Delaware with General George Washington at Trenton as a Continental Army Soldier from Connecticut.
March 1st, 1780, Connecticut Five Shillings Note, Signed “J(ohn) Chester” in red ink Fine. Fr. CT-222. This note has a fine hard to see cut cancel with numerous pinholes near center, the centerfold splitting and reinforced with clear tape on the reverse, otherwise being evenly worn in circulation.
