Lot 70:
Attractive June 28, 1776 New Hampshire Four Pence Note
June 28, 1776, Colony of New Hampshire Colonial Currency, Four Pence, Due Date of January 26, 1788, PCGS graded Choice Very Fine-35. Fr. NH-160. This very attractive, well centered and printed note is very similar in quality and eye appeal to the 5th Edition Newman illustrated plate example. Very nicely signed by John Smith in rich brown ink. The holder erroneously states edge and internal repairs which is nonsensical (nothing there). Also, the Newman plates serial number of 5887 is only 115 notes different from the current 5990. Plus, only 6,000 of these smaller format pence notes were printed, our example being just 10 from the last note issued. Only 3,000 notes have this “1788” printed due date. The blank reverse is very clean and crisp appearing and overall is certainly must rank as one of the finest known. Rated as “Rare” and unpriced in Friedberg in VF-25, whereas this note is an exceptionally clean and pleasing PCGS graded Choice Very Fine-35. |
