Lot 76:
Choice April 2, 1759 New York Two Pounds Colonial Note
April 2, 1759, Colony of New York Colonial Note, Two Pounds, Ex: Ford, PMG graded Very Fine-25. Fr. NY-155. An impressive boldly printed typeset Uniface note on clean heavy laid period paper. This note has a very choice appearance with all margins and designs shown, the face a bit towards the right, the blank reverse is very clean. The holder states repaired, yet we can only surmise that must refer to the unfolded corner tip edge. The signatures of Nathaniel Marston, Lawrence Reade and John Morin Scott are fully present and readable written in medium brown ink. “Tis Death to counterfeit this Bill” below the New York Arms vignette. The Friedberg reference states “Rare” in this quality, whereas the 2008 5th edition Newman displays no recorded price, only the a 5 pound in Almost Unc sold for $4,600 in May 2004. Provenance Ex: Ford Sale, October 2005, lot 1536. |
