Lot 96:
November 6, 1775 Rhode Island 10 Shillings Note Ex: Boyd

November 6, 1775, Rhode Island Colonial Currency, Ten Shillings, Ex: Boyd-Ford, Choice Very Fine.
Fr. RI-214. One of the finer quality examples of this scarce early 1775 Revolutionary War issue. This 10s higher denomination is printed on both sides, clean, solid, and pleasing with just some light even circulation. Its signatures of John Cole, John G Wanton and John Dexter are present, with Wanton being the most clear. Printed by John Carter. All text is sharp and easily readable. This note has superior eye appeal for the rarely encountered issue. The 2008 5th edition of Newman lists this note with a generous value of $2,250 in Very Fine on page 395. We can make no negative comment, with the reverse having splendid eye appeal. Provenance Ex: Stack’s Ford-F.C.C. Boyd Collection Sale, Part XV, October 2006, Lot 8668 where it then sold for $1,150 (twenty years ago with competitive bidding).
