July 2, 1780 Rhode Island “Guaranteed by the United States” Issue with Rare Low Serial Number “2”
July 2, 1780, State of Rhode Island Colonial Currency, Five Dollars, “Guaranteed” by the United States Issue bearing 5% Interest, Rare Low Serial Number “2”, Fully Signed and Issued, Crisp About Uncirculated. Fr. RI-286. A very special SERIAL NUMBER 2 and fully issued note. This issue with red and black printed text and designs. The face bears the deep brown signature of Thomas Rumreill, and the reverse side is signed for the United States with the endorsement by Jonathan Arnold. This note is well printed period laid period paper with the special watermark “CONFEDE / RATION” within the paper, which has a deep even tone. It has the eye appeal of crisp uncirculated but for some faint near invisible folds. This issue carries 5% Annual Interest with a printed Interest payment table on its face side at the lower left. Serial number collectors will place significant added value having Serial Number “2”.
