c. 1775-1780s Revolutionary War Era, Soldier’s Oval Camp Style Canteen, Wood with Hand-wrought Iron Straps on either side, plus an Iron handle on side, Choice Very Fine.
This example is in exceptionally nice original condition in museum quality. This scarce original military design Wooden Canteen, measures about 8” long x about 6.75” tall x 4.5” wide. It displays an “tear drop” shape with a flat bottom. There is a metal Iron Loop Carrying Handle to one side, and has a 1.25” raised central wooden spout at top, no plug present. Two heavy thick wide iron securing bands at each end. This attractive canteen retains an overall rich natural deep charcoal-brown patina showing typical signs of light surface wear a couple of nicks but no major detractions. Overall, an excellent example for display.
