Lot 155:
Three Cents Drake’s Plantation Bitters Ch. Extremely Fine
1862 Civil War Era Encased Postage Stamp Emergency Currency, EP-42, HB-101, S-71, Reed-DR03, Three Cents, Drake’s Plantation Bitters, Choice Extremely Fine. Rated as Rarity-2 (80-100 Known) according to Fred Reed. The fresh red 3¢ 1861 Civil War George Washington US Postage Stamp is centered a bit to the upper left and looks pleasing having just some faint tone and a light wrinkle across the middle. The case is defect-free with a natural medium chestnut color with some trivial flyspecks on the reverse. All legends are sharp and clear in detail. EAHA sold another example of EP-42 in our EAHA Auction of February 10, 2007 Lot 791 graded Choice About New selling for $1,062, now being about two decades ago. This current example appears somewhat superior. (VF Scott Cat. $550) [Civil War, 19th Century America, American Numismatics] [Encased Postage, George Washington, Merchant Tokens] [Currency, Postage Stamps, Numismatics, Exonumia] |
