1766 to 1767-Dated Stamp Act Era, Sammelband Lot of Five Different Combined Historical Colonial American Bound Imprints, including: 1767 “A Caution and Warning to Great Britain and Her Colonies... State of the Enslaved Negroes,” by Anthony Benezet, Philadelphia: D. Hall and W. Sellers, Philadelphia, PA., and Four Others, Fine.
One Volume that contains Five Individual Imprints bound together into one master volume, having a 1/4 calf cover, measuring 6.75” x 4.25”, comprising about 125 pages in total. It has worn boards with the covers present yet detached, having scattered misc. toning and foxing. These Five Historic Colonial Era Imprints are titled:

1. 1787 First Edition: “A Caution and Warning to Great Britain and Her Colonies... State of the Enslaved Negroes,” by Anthony Benezet, Philadelphia: D. Hall and W. Sellers, 1767. This Imprint is lacking its last 4 pages, but does contain the half-title. Evans 10555;

2. “Daily Conversations with God,” Philadelphia: Henry Miller, 1767. Evans 10659.;

3. “An Extract from a Treatise By William Law...” Philadelphia: Henry Miller, 1766, (Daniel DeFoe). Evans 10352.;

4. “The Dreadful Visitation ... Progress and Effects of the Plague, Philadelphia: Henry Miller, 1767. Evans 10599.

5. “The Emptiness and Vanity of A Life,” Philadelphia: Henry Miller, 1767. Evans 10609. Rough and loose, yet with historical content.

This Sammelband has an early owner’s lengthy inscription written on the rear pastedown. Ex-library Bookplate on the front pastedown. A rarely encountered, important interesting compendium of Colonial Philadelphia religious and spiritual views on contemporary political affairs of the 18th century, in the pre Revolutionary War year that the hated British Stamp Tax was ended. 1767 First Edition titled, “A Caution and Warning to Great Britain and Her Colonies... State of the Enslaved Negroes.” by Anthony Benezet is by far the most important Imprint included. This historic Colonial Era Black History and Slavery related work presents a fiery moral treatise on the harm caused by the Slave Trade, regarding the treatment of enslaved people held in the Caribbean. In Anthony Benezet’s, the author’s own ambitious words, this work intended to show that: “it is destructive of the welfare of human society, and of the peace and prosperity of every country,...” (as well as) “... that it destroys the bonds of natural affection and interest ... that it introduces idleness, discourages marriage, corrupts the youth, ruins and debauches morals, excites continual apprehension of dangers, and frequent alarms.” Cumulatively, a highly valuable bound Sammelband.
