Fr. VA-55. The currency George Washington may have used. Friedberg states: “All Issues From VA-1 to VA-61 Are VERY RARE or EXTREMELY RARE.” Serial No. 567. Signed by Peyton Randolph and Ro(bert) C(arter) Nicholas. Printer uncertain. Uniface, measuring 87mm x 65mm. Its net holder comments, repaired and reconstructed. A contemporary backing sheet with penciled notations in the right margin is no longer attached to the note, but it is included in this lot. To quote Bruce Hagen the Ford auction writer, “The edges are tough, but professional restoration would probably enhance the eye appeal of this rarity... though not a true beauty, it’s rarity is indisputable.” Ranked as the second finest certified by PMG with the highest an EF-40 very likely the 5th Edition Newman Plate note page 441.
