c. 1830 ANTI-SLAVERY PLATE Displaying, A CHAINED KNEELING ENSLAVED FIGURE AT PRAYER FOR HIS FREEDOM, 9.75" diameter, Britain, Extremely Fine.
An impressive, sharply detailed 9.75" diameter white ceramic Plate has a decorative scalloped outer rim made circa 1830 in Britain. The central image is extremely sharp and clear being after the iconic "Am I Not A Man And A Brother" Kneeling Slave Medallion produced by Josiah Wedgwood. The central brown transfer is distinct being located on a clean white field with very slight wear. That image, first depicted in 1787, quickly became an international symbol of the Abolitionist movement. The most evocative image of Enslavement before the invent of photography. An excellent item for display.
